A San Jose woman suspected of throwing her 1-year-old son out of a second-floor window on Christmas was arrested and faces charges of attempted murder, use of a deadly weapon and child endangerment, authorities said.

Lupita Cortez, 24, is in police custody at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center’s mental health facility after she allegedly dropped her young son to the ground outside their San Jose home in the 3500 block of Alden Way and jumped after him through the window shortly before noon. Both mother and son survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
