Jon Busch re-signs with San Jose
At 35, San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch figures he’s reaching his peak. That’s why he signed a two-year contract extension this week with a club option for ’14.
Busch, a native of Queens, N.Y., faced more shots than any MLS goalkeeper last season but still recorded seven shutouts.
He has been in MLS since ’99, playing for Chicago (two stints), D.C., Tampa Bay and Columbus before joining San Jose in ’10. He said he chose to return to San Jose because he believes in the program being developed by G.M. John Doyle and coach Frank Yallop.
“It was the first thing we talked about in November, at the end of the season, was getting it done and not making it difficult for anybody,” Busch said in a statement. “I wanted to be here. I believe in what John and Frank are doing here, and I want to help out in any way I can.
“I want the boys to know and the coaches to know that when they turn around and see me back there, they’re going to have a consistent goalkeeper, game in and game out, year in and year out.”
